To use or not to use the accessibility plugin Userway.Org

Intro

Accessibility matters. Budgets for accessibility also matters. Should we use accessibility plugins like Userway.Org for increasing accessibility on websites? They propose fast and cheap decisions. But really, can we guarantee increasing accessibility by this plugins?

My answer — rather no, then yes.

5 points why we avoid using UserWay plugin

1. UserWay plugin surely does not and cannot resolve whole accessibility. That is not the task of that. Accessible website begins from the technical task, goes through wireframes and design planning, and ends by code testing. That is more than just big or small letters, ore reading by Userway-porvided screen reader.
2. So, UserWay has embedded screen reader. Why for? The only cause of this may be using website by blind person on a guest computer. But the basic of using a computer by blind person is using screen reader. For Windows the most popular are proprietary JAWS and free NVDA, for MacOS and iOS — VoiceOver, for Android — TackBack / Android Accessibility Suite. These screen readers are much more customizable that UserWay.
3. UserWay provides using website by keyboard only. Really? Using website by keyboard only has to be built without any plugins. That is 2.1.1 criterion of WCAG. User should not even think about search the possibility to use keyboard only.
4. High contrast? Really good think for very poor vision. But the cost of custom high contrast on the website os not so high, so you can make native look of this and with more regimes of high contrast. Userway does not provide custom colors mode, and count of different regimes can be at least 8 + sepia mode for people with some king of psychic impairments.
5. Big fonts. Ok, but for people with low vision MUST be possibility to scale website up to 200% without any visual bugs and showing horizontal scrolling. If that is present and it works why we do need this button?

My conclusion

If you want to make website really accessible, you have to think about correct website planning, desing and coding. Not about things that maybe will fix existing bugs.
